What to Expect:

This is a very casual event. These events can be considered a cross between a game night and a coffee chat. We DO provide a variety of board games and playing cards available for you to use. We also provide sign language specific games (such as Sign It). You are also welcome to bring your own game if you prefer. Some just prefer to sit and chat with people. We have no expectation of you – other than to respect others. We also ask you to make a purchase from Starbucks – it’s Starbucks, so we probably don’t need to run down what they have. This is new to us, just like it’s new to you. We’re playing it by ear. This could look different from month to month. It may also look different if we have a small group as compared to a larger group, simply by the way Zoom operates. But general rule of course is to sign and be considerate. We’ll muddle through as we go!

What NOT to expect:

We are NOT teachers. This is not a class. Other than that – who knows?! You may find that there are teachers attending our event. Feel free to ask them a few questions if you wish – but be respectful that they are also there to enjoy themselves, and not to put on a free tutoring session.

The goal here is … what?

The goal is to provide a venue for people to come together and socialize, and for students to practice what they’ve been learning.

Our Mission:

To provide a casual, non-teaching environment, for those in the signing community – both Deaf and hearing. This may include those that are learning ASL, or those who have mastered it. We welcome those in the Deaf community to join us as well!

What to Bring:

A positive attitude is the only actual requirement. Some students may find it helpful to bring a notebook and pen/pencil if you wish to jot down things you learn.
